Travelling in New Zealand
Best time to visit

New Zealand’s climate can be best described as being extremely variable, with the likelihood of experiences four seasons in one day very possible! In terms of best overall weather, the summer months of December to February take the crown. However, this is also the busiest time of year for both local and international travel, so prices tend to be higher.

March to May and September to November (Autumn and Spring) are tourist shoulder seasons in New Zealand, with temperatures during the day remaining warm with cooler weather during the nights.

In the mountains, the winter months (June – August) are cold and offer great ski conditions for the avid winter sports junkie. However, once you get away from the mountains, the winter is relatively short and mild.

Culture & customs
New Zealand has a very unique and diverse culture. The culture of the local indigenous Maori people affects everything from the language, arts and even the accents of all New Zealanders. New Zealand’s location in the South Pacific, and an undying love of the outdoors, sport and arts makes Kiwis and their culture unique.
Health & safety
New Zealand is a safe country for travelling in. If you do fall ill during your travels, the standard of hospitals and health care is high.
Electronics & devices

In New Zealand, the powerpoints use a 10 amp plug with two flat 1.6mm blades, set at 30 degrees to the vertical, making an upside down ‘V’ shape.

Money & costs
Haggling is generally not done in New Zealand, as prices are fixed. The New Zealand dollar is the only accepted currency.
Visas & insurance
Australian and New Zealand citizens don’t need a visa to holiday in New Zealand. We do strongly recommend travel insurance while travelling, because the real magic of travel happens when you’re worry free.
